Kate Raworth
Kate Raworth is a renegade economist focused on exploring the economic mindset needed to address the 21st century’s social and ecological challenges, and is the creator of the Doughnut of social and planetary boundaries. She is a «Senior Visiting Research Associate» Oxford University’s Environmental Change Institute, where she teaches on the Masters in Environmental Change and Management. She is also a Senior Associate at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership. Her internationally acclaimed idea of Doughnut Economics has been widely influential amongst sustainable development thinkers, progressive businesses and political activists, and she has presented it to audiences ranging from the UN General Assembly to the Occupy movement. Her book, Doughnut Economics: seven ways to think like a 21st century economist is being published in the UK and US in April 2017 and translated into Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch and Japanese. She will give her talk through Skype.
Arild Vatn
Arild Vatn is an institutional and ecological economist and Professor at the Department of International Environment and Development Studies at NMBU. For a lifetime, he has been working to develop and include institutional perspectives in the economy, and he specialises in environmental governance and policy processes. Important contributions, as well as countless published research articles, are found in the books ‘Institutions and the Environment’ (2005) and ‘Environmental Governance. Institutions, Policies and Actions’ (2015). Vatn is a former President and Vice President of the European Society of Ecological Economics, and led a series of prominent PhD summer schools in ecological economics in Norway between 2006 and 2014. He has received international recognition for his contributions to his field, including the Thorstien Veblen prize in 2007 and the Kenneth Boulding Award in 2016. Vatn leads NMBU’s Master programme in International Environment Studies.
Ståle Navrud
Ståle Navrud is a Professor of Economics at the Department of Economics and Resource Management, Norwegian University of Life Sciences. He holds a PhD in Environmental and Resource Economics and a M.Sc. in Management of Natural Resources. He has published extensively in international refereed journals in these fields and edited three books “Environmental Value Transfer: Issues and Methods” (Springer, 2007), “Valuing Cultural Heritage” (Edward Elgar, 2004) and “Pricing the European Environment” (Oxford University Press, 1992). He is currently a review editor on the Economics of Adaption chapter in the next assessment report of the IPCC.
Erik Gomez- Baggethun
Erik Gómez-Baggethun is a Professor in Environmental Governance at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), and a Senior Visiting Research Associate at the University of Oxford. His research covers various topics in ecological economics with a focus on environmental valuation and governance. He is vice-president of the European Society for Ecological Economics and has participated in initiatives like the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), ‘The economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity’ (TEEB), and the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
Fredrik Andersen
Fredrik Andersen is a philosopher and participant in the CauseHealth research team, a four-year research project at the Norwegian School of Economics at NMBU. Andersen is a fellow in science philosophy and interested in the interaction between metaphysics and natural sciences, the history of science, epistemology and aesthetics. He is known for fearlessly questioning our most established views in science.
Ebba Boye
Ebba Boye is head of Rethinking Economics Norway and a graduate economist with a master’s degree from The New School in New York, an institution that offers a broad-spectrum and critical approach to economics. She is a columnist in Klassekampen and has worked as a researcher in Manifest Tankesmie.
The final part of the conference will be dedicated to debate and dialogue between the keynote speakers.
